Perspectives of Worcester State 

My journey to Worcester State began in the winter of 2011. I grew up in a rural town (pop. 800) just out side of Jefferson City, MO, and after 23 years of living there, I was very anxious to experience something new. I primarily moved here for my girlfriend, whom I met in 2004 in Wisconsin. We haven’t been dating since 2004 but we’ve been friends since then. Long story sort, she’s from Mass, I wanted a change, so here I am.

My first impressions of WSU were good. I like a smaller campus, makes it easier to navigate and less of a hassle. The science and tech building immediately caught my eye, and was happy to find out I had two classes in the venue for my first semester. Only if every building on campus looked like that… That’s not true, the football field/track is very seemly, the dorms are nice and shiny, and we cant forget about the eye catching dorms overlooking the campus. Overall, and in all seriousness, WSU is a nice location for a university, and good upgrades have been done thus far.

My second impressions of campus life were odd at first, due to trying to adjust to the New England atmosphere from a Mid-western setting. I’m still trying to understand why people do some of the things they do, and talk the way they talk. But then again, Worcester State isn’t much different from the typical college campus: filled with young ladies gossiping, giggling, texting, and wearing provocative clothing. I’m 24, so most of the time it’s a little annoying to say the least, but it’s all good, I try every day to be optimistic about young girls frolicking around immaturely. NOT! But, this is college, and what doesn’t happen in college, right? As far as the professional life on campus, I enjoy it. Unfortunately for me my major is communication, disabling me for being in my one true love, the SCIENCE building. Something about that building makes me feel good. It must be because it’s new, and so fresh looking to the campus, plus scientists occupying it  ( I think) helps the professional vibe that much more…It’s just comfortable. One other con I can think of is the Gym. I went and shot some hoops a few days back, and every time I would take 2 or 3 dribbles, the ball would fly in a random direction due to dead spots in the floor. My high school in Wardsville, MO, had a 100x better Gymnasium, and the school only had enough people in it for the basketball team. HA. Let’s not even mention the workout facilities, because they suck too. However, I do hear that whole building is going under the knife soon, it can’t come soon enough.

Ok, enough of the bickering, lets get down to my short term goals. I plan to graduate WSU in the spring of 2014 with a BA in Communication and a minor in Economics. I’m in the military so this could be my future plan, but theoretically I would love to work in the field of environmental sciences, conservation biology, or a health organization. My main goal in life is to travel to as many places as possible with any sort of historical significance, and it’s my hope that in those travels I can help make the world be a better place to live for generations to come. Work to LIVE, not the other way around!
